Janet Forrester Nungala ( Nala ) is recognised by the National Gallery in Canberra and her work has been shown in it’s aboriginal art exhibits. Janet’s paintings are in many interstate and overseas collectors. Janet was traditionally raised in the desert south west of Alice Springs. Her stories are linked to the dreaming stories that have spanned the desert landscape for over 40000 years.

Janet still lives a semi traditional life in Central Australia at Maryvale where she attends ceremonies with her relatives. The women paint their bodies with ochre paint and fats which shine in the firelight. They dance and sing sacred songs to thank the land for food and water. Janet collects bush food and medicine in the traditions of her ancestors over thousands of years.

Her work was featured in the ‘ DreamingsExhibition’ one of the largest exhibitions of aboriginal art ever staged. It was curated by the Asia Societies Gallery New York in conjunction with The South Australia museum and travelled the USA and Europe in 1988.

Janet has an individualistic style which is instantly recognisable by the use of colour and design, her personal interpretation of her dreamings. Ancient stories she inherited from her family.

Painted Country’s director has promoted Janet Forresters art since 1987 enquiries are welcome.
