Therese Ryder

Therese Ryder Ngale was born in 1946, she is from the Eastern Arrente people of Central Australia. Therese was reared at the Santa Therese mission, south east of Alice Springs by Catholic nuns. Kathleen and Gabriella Wallace recognised artists were also reared at the mission and attended school with Theresa. Therese moved to Alice Springs in 1978 she is a quietly spoken person who has reared nine children. Painting gives her great joy, her main art form is landscape watercolours although she is also known for her traditional dot painting. Therese has worked closely with the Institute of Aboriginal Development in Alice Springs helping to compile a dictionary of the Eastern Arrente language and creating a cover for the publication. Therese also assisted in the production of the publication ‘Keringke’ which is the story of the Southern Arrente group of artists of which she was a part.
