For many generations the artists male relatives have been employed on cattle stations on their country. As a child Ian,s family lived on these stations and he watched the men on horseback with respect and admiration.

Most of traditional life had died generations ago, but Kurtjar people had stubbornly stayed, working their land on horseback. This devotion to the land has paid off. In September 2002 two significant events took place ń the title deeds were received by the Morr Morr pastoral Company ( Delta Downs Station ) to mark the repayment of the loan from ATSIC and the Land Rights for Kurtjar Country were handed over to the Kurtjar Aboriginal Corporation for all Kurtjar people.

Another important figure in Ians life and art has been his uncle, Nardoo, a famed tracker .Nardoo was the subject of Last of the Spiritual Black Trackers an exhibition that won Ian the Open painting category in the 12th National and Torres Strait Islander Art Award. This was revisited in a later exhibition ( Nardoo tracking White Girl) These works expressed both a tangible affection for the relative he knew as a child and a fascination for the man and his magic. In 2007 Ian also reached the finals in the Archibald and Wynne prizes at the Art Gallery of NSW in 2007.

In March 2010 Ian Waldron won the Glover Prize Australia,s most prestigious award for an Australian Landscape painting. Ian Waldron's paintings are prime examples of the artists ability to portray the mysterious depth that shows an audacious pride in the extraordinary strength and talent of his people to this day. Ian Waldron pays homage to the land and his people through his art.

Painted Country Gallery,s director in NSW is proud to have been associated with such a talented and recognised artist for the past 12 years, enquiries regarding his future works are welcome.
