Alan Dowlers art is featured in many overseas and interstate collections. He was selected by the international magazine 'Readers Digest' as artist of the month in January 1993 the work 'Fish Dreaming' was then acquisitioned by 'Readers Digest' for their art collection in New York.The paintings image was featured on the cover of the magazine.

Alan has also won the 'Central Australian Art Award' in Alice Springs as Artist of the year

Profile
Alan Dowler Kamara was taught to paint at an early age by his mother,a traditional Aboriginal woman from the Kaitcha people who live North East of Alice Springs in Central Australia. Alan watched as she told him stories and painted on the desert sand.
In 1988 Alan started to paint on canvas,creating impressions of his mothers stories.

During the early 1980s he was an honouree ranger in the rainforest areas of Southern Arnhemland. Located 1000 kms North East of Alice Springs . He came to love the Rock Art images throughout the rainforest, but as his traditional country is desert country and his people were from the Alice Springs area, he was prevented by Aboriginal law to paint these images as he was not a custodian of the area. However on returning south to his family he set out to research Central Australian Rock painting ,which although recognisably different to northern art , gave him the inspiration to create his own contemporary designs which relate to the artwork he produces today.

Alan uses a powder paint medium in strong primary colours mixed to a thick paste. His application technique of using many layers of paint in his designs creates a cracking effect across the painting.This application is lengthy and painstaking; the result a three dimensional image on the canvas.

Alan continues to paint and has strong ambitions to exhibit internationally. Painted Country's director is proud to have represented Alan Dowler Kamara's art since 1988.
