Nyukana Baker is a founder member of the Ernabella Aboriginal Arts and Crafts movement.An artist for over 50 years, in 1975 she travelled with two fellow artists to study Batik techniques at the Batik Research Centre in Indonesia. Using soft flowing lines of wax and paint to create distinctive patterns in rich colours.Translating the landscape on to the silk in the shape of trees, flowers and plants which are traditionally used for food and healing.Nyukana has a great knowledge and connection with the land and her culture.

Nyukana,s batiks are precise and colourful,her professional approach with a janting tool creates designs in her signature style.This reflects the brilliance of her technique and experience which is recognised by her peers as the leading senior artist in the Ernabella craft room.

Ernabella Batiks are represented in many major art galleries and museums throughout Australia and in private and public collections worldwide.

Painted Country Gallery's director has worked closely with Nyukana Baker and other senior Ernabella artists at her Galleries in Alice Springs ,Cairns and South Australia where from 1988 onwards she held many exhibition work shops to promote the work of the Ernabella artists.
